We love tradition as much as innovation, and our new design Blossom encapsulates both. Our first portable light marries excellent craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology: the fixture’s shade is made from fine bone china, which is illuminated by a battery-powered LED light source.

Design Details

Drawing inspiration from the delicate elegance of Plum blossoms, Blossom's award-winning design features a fluted bone china shade, which was designed by our director Charlie Bowles and emerges after a two-year development journey.

The shade’s shape is informed by Charlie’s trips to cities in the Far East, where the Plum trees turn many city parks into pink and white oceans during spring. The gentle curves and fine lines of the petals appear in the shade in Blossom flower-shaped top, formed from semicircles which then flare to open the shade. A fine satin brass detail enriches the shade, completing the refined, poetic shape.

INHOUSE DEVELOPMENT

As with every new piece, our production team worked in close collaboration with our makers in Stoke-on-Trent, testing prototypes until we were satisfied with the look and quality of the new design. 

Simultaneously, we brought the LED experts from Original BTC sister company Beadlight into the project. They are at the forefront of the latest developments in lighting and worked with us to design the electronics and LED light source, ensuring we’d find the most efficient way to produce the perfect amount of light over extended periods of time.

Charged via USB-C, Blossom not only illuminates spaces with up to seven hours of brilliance at full intensity but extends its charm for an impressive 20 hours at its lowest setting. A perfect fusion of sophistication and functionality, Blossom marks a significant milestone in the evolution of British lighting design.

In practical terms, Blossom transcends its illuminating role. With three distinct brightness levels, it adapts effortlessly to diverse scenarios—a cosy ambiance for intimate dinners or a brighter setting for lively gatherings. Its portability transforms spaces, effortlessly transitioning from dining tables to garden paths, and even finding its place in the sophisticated corners of hotel lobbies. 

We unveiled Blossom at Decorex 2023 and were overwhelmed by the positive response at the stand – the little light even took home the Best New Product of the show award.
