Rise & Fall School Light
About
Originally found in 1920s classrooms and libraries, the Rise & Fall School Light features a unique hand-spun reflector and complementary counterweight. Its clever design allows you to easily adjust the height, making it an ideal choice for dining tables and kitchens. Simply lower the light for intimate dinners or raise for a broader pool of general light.
This pendant is available in either painted aluminium or copper, with different coloured interiors.
Manufacturing
We use centuries-old techniques to create our lighting designs, including some with roots in London’s East India Docks, where Davey Lighting was established in the 1880s. Each of our spun shades begins as a sheet metal disc. The disc is clamped against a shaped block and both are rotated at high speed.
Our craftspeople apply pressure by hand, gradually shaping the disc around the block. The shade is then finished by polishing, weathering or powder coating.
